Our History

Like its region, the village of Suzette has a rich history.

Once a village in the Comtat Venaissin during the papal period in Avignon, Suzette has a deeply rooted agricultural past. In the 20th century, the village was renowned for its apricot plantations known as ‘Rosés de Suzette’. Today, its AOC Beaumes de Venise and Côtes du Ventoux wines enjoy great popularity among wine lovers and enthusiasts of Provence.

The estate has been in the family since 1640, with a tradition of growing olive and apricot trees. In the 1950s, with the creation of the Beaumes de Venise cooperative, André decided to replace the trees with vines, the harvest being taken to the cooperative.

In the early 2000s, his son, Pierre, came up with the idea of making wine on the estate. In 2002, Sébastien joined the estate alongside his father-in-law, and construction of the winery was completed in time for his first vintage.

Conversion to organic farming began in 2010 and certification was obtained in 2013.

Terroir and Appelation

Surrounded by the Dentelles de Montmirail, Mont Ventoux and Mont Saint Amand, this incomparable site is a prime location for the production of quality wines. The high altitude provides a cooler microclimate in summer, with a constant breeze, and mild winters with minimal frost.

Our vineyards are divided into numerous plots, enabling us to claim several appellations. These hillside plantations require mainly manual labour.

The vineyard lies on Triassic rock. Buried under more than 1,500 metres of sediment, this geological layer reappears at the surface, giving our soils ochre to violet hues. This ancient rock gives us a highly diverse range of wines

The heavy, compact soils give structured, concentrated wines like our Beaumes de Venise. Conversely, light, draining soils produce supple, fruity wines, such as the vines surrounding the Château du Barroux, which give our Ventoux its distinctive character.
